Kathryn Janeway is the daughter of Starfleet Admiral Edward Janeway. Janeway has strong science and mathematics skills, with a doctorate degree in Quantum Cosmology. She also enjoys gothic romance holonovels. She has an Irish setter, Molly, who lives with her former fiancé Mark Johnson.In 2375, U.S.S. Voyager encountered the U.S.S. Equinox NCC-72381 in the Delta Quadrant. (The Equinox was also pulled to the Delta Quadrant by the Caretaker.) They begin the journey home together until Janeway discovers that Captain Rudy Ransom has been murdering an alien species to harvest their energy for an experimental engine. After the U.S.S. Equinox and Captain Ransom are destroyed by the aliens, Janeway strips the surviving 5 crew members of their Starfleet rank and they join Voyager as crewmen.
In 2377, U.S.S. Voyager encounters a Borg Transwarp Hub. According to Seven of Nine, there are only six hubs in the galaxy, which the Borg use to generate transwarp conduits. The Voyager crew comes up with a plan to destroy the hub. They create a virus and implant it into Janeway. Janeway makes her way to Unimatrix 01 and is assimilated by the Borg Queen. The virus begins propogating throughout the Borg. Using a transwarp conduit, Voyager rockets through the conduit to the Alpha Quadrant, destroying the transwarp hub in the process. When Voyager emerges in the Alpha Quadrant, they are greeted by a Federation fleet preparing for a Borg invasion.
Upon return to Earth, Janeway was promoted to Admiral for her determination in returning U.S.S. Voyager and its crew home — and for the destruction of the Borg transwarp hub.
In 2383, Janeway took command of the U.S.S. Dauntless NCC-80816 to search for the missing U.S.S. Protostar NX-76884, commanded by her former U.S.S. Voyager first officer Captain Chakotay.
