Hemmer served as chief engineer of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 under Captain Christopher Pike.Hemmer is an Aenar, a subspecies of Andorian. The Aenar are physiologically identical to Andorians, but have pale skin. They are blind, but they have enhanced cognitive abilities.
Like other Aenar, Hemmer is a pacifist. While he will not fight for Starfleet, he will defend its ideals.
During a rescue mission on Valeo Beta V aboard a derelict U.S.S. Peregrine, Hemmer is infected with Gorn eggs. Before the hatchlings erupt from his body, he leaves the ship and throws himself off a cliff.
