- The episode opens with Seven speaking with Tuvok, now a captain, about contacting Admiral Janeway. She realizes he has been replaced by a changeling when he didn't know it was Tuvok who had previously stabilized her neural pattern (in the Voyager episode "Infinite Regress").
- Vadic reveals she was held captive by Section 31 and tortured and experimented on as part of Project Proteus. To create the perfect spies, the scientist modified the changelings to pass blood tests, replicate internal organs, and hold their shape longer. Vadic was able to kill the scientist and took her shape. She is also able to pass on her abilities to other changelings.
- Michelle Hurd (Raffi Musiker) does not appear in this episode.
