Synopsis
Mariner and Boimler work the Starfleet recruitment booth at an alien job fair, and Rutherford challenges himself.

- Rutherford's implant malfunctions, and brainwaves of his younger self compete to take over his personality. The implant's occular eye screen turns red (instead of blue) when young Rutherford takes over. (Eugene Cordero refers to him as "Red Ruthorford" on The Ready Room.)
- While trapped in his subconsious with his younger self, they compete in a race similar to the Voyager episode "Drive". Rutherford builds a replica of the Delta Flyer, and he and his friends wear the jumpsuits seen in that episode.
- In a repressed memory, it's revealed that Rutherford received his implant in an accident that happened during a sketchy covert Starfleet mission. The memory will be revealed in the season finale "The Stars At Night".
- Petra Aberdeen is an archeologist and former Starfleet officer, similar in character to Vash, who first appeared in the Next Generation episode "Captain's Holiday". She expresses interest in working with Mariner, if she decides to quit Starfleet.
