After a stellar academic career in Starfleet Academy, Harry boarded the Starship U.S.S. Voyager as the Operations Officer, a Senior position for someone so young and inexperienced. He was editor of the Starfleet Academy newspaper for one year. While he is nervous about living up to his own expectations, Harry looks forward to the challenges of space exploration. He is an only child to Mary and John Kim. Ensign Kim played the clarinet in the Julliard Youth Symphony. He enjoys volleyball and the holonovel Beowulf. He wrote a clarinet concerto called "Echoes of the Void."In 2374, Captain Janeway asked Harry and Seven of Nine to construct a new Astrometrics lab to replace the outdated Stellar Cartography lab. Located on U.S.S. Voyager's Deck 8, Section 29, the new Astrometrics combines Borg and Starfleet technologies to enhance the long range and navigational sensors. The lab features multiple workstations and a large display panel. The database contains all of the navigational data that Seven of Nine acquired while she was a Borg drone.
In 2375, he asked Captain Janeway for more command experience. She agreed to his request and he began bridge command duty on the night shift 2 days per week.
