Wesley Crusher is the son of Dr. Beverly Crusher and the late Lt. Cmdr. Jack Crusher. While growing up, Wesley was more advanced than other children his age and he had few friends. Wesley has strong mathematics, engineering and propulsion skills, which he refined on the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D while his mother served as Chief Medical Officer.In 2364, The Traveler from Tau Ceti told Captain Picard that Wesley was a genius, and Picard gave him a field promotion to Acting Ensign for his service to the ship. In 2366, Picard once again gave him a field promotion, this time to full Starfleet Ensign.
In 2370, Wesley left Starfleet Academy to learn the ways of the Traveler on Dorvan V.
By 2379, Wesley had finished his training at Starfleet Academy and had been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, Junior Grade.
