Born 13 Oct 2334 to Paul and Isabel Howard. Beverly Howard married Lt. Cmdr. Jack Crusher in 2348. They have one son Wesley R. Crusher. Jack Crusher was killed while serving as First Officer on the U.S.S. Stargazer NCC-2893, under the command of Captain Jean-Luc Picard, in 2354. Jack Crusher and Jean-Luc Picard were good friends; Picard personally informed Beverly and Wesley of Jack's death. Beverly would be united with Jean-Luc Picard when she requested the position of Chief Medical Officer on the newly commisioned U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D in 2364.

Serving on the Enterprise with andriod Lt. Commander Data, Dr. Crusher has a thorough understanding of his android mechanics.

She has interests in theatre and dancing, earning the nickname "The Dancing Doctor." Her interest in medicine was inspired by her grandmother, Felica Howard. Her grandmother taught Beverly about herbal medicine at the Arvada III colony, where her grandmother raised her. Her grandmother died in 2370 at the Caldos colony. Taking leave, Dr. Crusher learned that an entity named Ronin was using her family's energy to sustain himself. She almost fell under his spell, but she was forced to kill him.

Dr. Crusher was head of Starfleet Medical for one year in 2365 before resuming her post on the U.S.S. Enterprise-D. She returned to Starfleet Medical in 2379.

In 2369, Admiral Alynna Nechayev reassigned Captain Jean-Luc Picard to Special Operations, along with Beverly Crusher and Enterprise Security Chief Worf. They were to book passage to the Cardassian world of Celtris III, where they were to neutralize a metagenic weapon. The Celtris III laboratory was discovered to be a ruse to lure Picard into Cardassian territory. Crusher and Worf were able to escape, but Picard was captured. Picard was eventually released when Captain Jellico and the Enterprise crew uncovered a Cardassian invasion force ready to invade the Federation sector surrounding Minos Korva.

In 2379, the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-E was dispatched to Romulus to negotiate a peace treaty with new Praetor Shinzon, who Beverly discovered to be a clone of Picard. The crew defeated Shinzon and destroyed his biogenic weapon. The U.S.S. Enterprise was severely damaged and subsequently underwent a refit.

During this time, Beverly and Jean-Luc Picard attempted a relationship, but it ultimately did not work out. Beverly left the U.S.S. Enterprise and Starfleet Medical, and began helping people directly through the Mariposa medical program. She commanded the S.S. Eleos XII NAR-59019, a Phoenix-class medical rapid response starship.

In 2401, Beverly revealed to Jean-Luc Picard that he fathered a son with her, who she named Jack Crusher.
