Synopsis
As Lieutenant Torres reluctantly faces the Day of Honor, an ancient Klingon ritual which requires examination of one's behavior, the U.S.S. Voyager is forced to eject the warp core, and she and Paris must launch a shuttle to tractor it back. Soon, the U.S.S. Voyager is ambushed by the Caatati, a race almost completely assimilated by the Borg, who demand Seven of Nine as ransom. When the Caatati attack the shuttlecraft, Torres and Paris are left suspended in space and prepare to die, prompting Torres to confide to her crewmate that she loves him.

- This has to be the first time in any Star Trek episode that the warp core ejection systems were not offline when an ejection was requested....
- When Janeway asks Seven of Nine if she'd like to be called by her given name, Annika, she replies that she has been Seven of Nine as long as she can remember. Janeway asks, "How about Seven?" Seven of Nine replies, "Imprecise...but acceptable."
- The Day of Honor ritual entitles: (1) Eat the heart of a sanctified Targ; (2) Drink from the grail of Kahless; (3) Recount how you have proved yourself worthy over the past year; (4) Endure the Ritual of 20 Painsticks; (5) battle with the Bat'leth master; (4) Traverse the Sulfur Lagoons of Goroth.
- Tom and B'Elanna's shuttle, the Cochrane, is destroyed by the Caatati.
- Tom and B'Elanna use the EVA suits made for Star Trek: First Contact.
- Tom notes that in the 3rd year at the Academy there is a 6-week EVA course. (Torres dropped out in her second year.)
- This episode was shown "out of order" with the next one.
- Seven builds the Caatati a thorium isotope energy matrix for power. When the Borg assimilated the Caatati, they obtained the technology.
