An accident while investigating a time portal sends Ensigns Beckett Mariner and Bradward Boimler through time from the 24th century, and Captain Pike and his crew must get them back where they belong before they can alter the timeline.

• The episode opens as a Star Trek: Lower Decks animated episode, on the U.S.S. Cerritos with Boimler's log entry, Stardate 58460.1.
  
• The U.S.S. Cerritos has arrived on Krulmuth-B, where there is a time portal that was discovered by Captain Pike and the U.S.S. Enterprise. Tendi notes that it was actually discovered by Orion scientists.
  
• The time portal is powered by horonium, which they are unable to synthesize, and haven't been used since the NX-class. It's a tradition to include parts from their namesakes when building new ships, so the U.S.S. Enterprise has a piece of Enterprise NX-01 in Engineering.
  
• While discussing the NX-01, Ortegas excitedly explains her middle school was named for Travis Mayweather, who is her hero. Uhura excitedly talks about Hoshi Sato, who knew 86 languages and Uhura wrote multiple papers about her.
  
• The episode ends with an animated U.S.S. Enterprise and the Strange New Worlds crew in animated form.
