- Star Trek: Picard takes place in the year 2399.
- The episode opens with a dream sequence of Picard playing poker with Data in Ten Forward on the Enterprise-D.
- The episode closes with the reveal of Dahj's twin, Soji, at the "Romulan Reclamation Site," which is revealed to be a Borg cube.
- After the rogue synthetics attacked Mars in 2385, the Federation banned all synthetic lifeforms. This happened while Starfleet was refitting ships at the Utopia Planitia shipyards for the evacuation of the Romulans and their colonies from the path of the pending supernova. The evacuation plans were cancelled after the attack, leaving the Romulans to fend for themselves.
- The attack on Mars was first seen in the Short Trek "Children of Mars".
- The supernova consumed Romulus in 2387, and was the catalyst for the events of Star Trek XI.
- Laris and Zhaban are Romulan refugees, who work as Château Picard's caretakers. Their backstory was told in the Star Trek: Picard—Countdown comic series.
- Bruce Maddox is mentioned as Dr. Agnes Jurati's former boss, until he left the Daystrom Institute and disappeared. (He appeared in the Next Generation episode "The Measure of a Man".)
- Dahj's boyfriend Caler is Zahean, which were introduced in the Short Trek "Runaway". (His name wasn't mentioned in dialog, but he was captioned in the closed captions.)
